Terms
Terms of service
Last updated 3 November 2026
These terms apply when you use Magic Guardian: this website, the web app at my.magicguardian.app, our browser extension, our Mac helper and our Android app. By creating an account or connecting a device, you agree to them.
Who we are
Magic Guardian is provided by The Software Station (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa (registration number 2019/073147/07) at Somerset Links Office Park, Ground Floor, Gleneagles Building, Somerset West, 7130, Cape Town, South Africa.
In these terms, "Magic Guardian", "we" and "us" mean The Software Station (Pty) Ltd. Write to support@magicguardian.app about Magic Guardian or anything in these terms.
What Magic Guardian is
Magic Guardian is a self-control tool. It shows you where your time goes and puts obstacles, from a gentle nudge to a hard block, in front of apps and sites you choose. It helps you keep decisions you made when calm; it cannot guarantee you won't use something, and someone with enough access to a device can always remove it. It is not a medical or therapeutic service. If your use of devices is harming you, please also talk to someone qualified.
Some things are built to be hard to undo, on purpose. Loosening a rule waits 24 hours, and a Lockdown can't be ended early from Magic Guardian. You choose these when you set them.
Your account
- You need an account to use Magic Guardian. Keep your sign-in and your devices secure; anyone with them can see your history and change your rules.
- Accounts are for people aged 18 or over, or younger people with the consent of a parent or guardian.
- Connect only devices you own or are allowed to monitor. Don't use Magic Guardian to record someone else's use without their knowledge and consent.
Acceptable use
Don't try to break into, overload or disrupt Magic Guardian, access other people's accounts or data, or use it for anything unlawful. We may suspend an account that does.
Price
Magic Guardian is free while we build it. If we start charging, we will tell you in the web app beforehand, and nothing you have will start costing money without your agreement.
Your information
What your devices record, and what we do with it, is described in our privacy policy. Your history stays yours, and you can have it deleted.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Magic Guardian available and your obstacles working, including while a device is offline, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of faults. We may change, add or remove features as Magic Guardian develops. If a device can't reach us, it keeps applying the rules it last received.
Ending your account
You can stop using Magic Guardian at any time: unlink your devices in the web app, remove the extension and apps, and email support@magicguardian.app to have your account deleted. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for time or opportunities lost through using or not using an app or site, or for anything an obstacle allowed or prevented. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be excluded, including South Africa's Consumer Protection Act, or our liability where the law does not allow it to be limited.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. If you live elsewhere as a consumer, you also keep the protections your own country's law gives you.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we will update them here and change the date at the top. If a change significantly affects you, we will tell you in the web app before it takes effect.
